# Test in the Playground

> Ask your bot questions in the dashboard before your visitors do.

The Playground is a chat page in your dashboard. It lets you test your bot with your own documents before you add the widget to your site.

The header of the page explains the rules:

> Ask your bot anything. It answers from your documents with page citations, exactly like the widget. Answered playground replies count toward your reply allowance.

## Use the Playground

**1. Open the Playground**

Select **Playground** in the dashboard sidebar.

**2. Start a chat**

Select **New chat**. The conversations list on the left shows your earlier chats. Paperlink AI names each chat for you.

**3. Ask a question**

Type a question of up to 2,000 characters. Press Enter to send it. Press Shift+Enter to add a new line.

**4. Stop an answer**

Select **Stop** while the bot writes if you want to end the answer early.

To rename or delete a chat, use the options for that chat in the conversations list.

## What you see under an answer

* **Citation chips.** Each chip shows a document name and a page, for example "handbook.pdf p.4". Your visitors do not see citations. You see them so you can check the source.
* **Follow-up chips.** Chips with suggested next questions appear under the latest answer.
* **Footer.** A line under each answer shows whether the bot did not know and which tier answered.

## What happens when the bot cannot answer

The Playground shows the same contact card that your visitors see. The label is "Contact fallback shown to visitors". It lists your support email and link.

If you have not set a contact, the Playground shows "No support email or link set yet. Add one in Settings…". Follow that nudge. A visitor who gets no answer then has a way to reach you.

## Replies and limits

> [!WARNING]
>
> Answered Playground replies count toward your reply allowance, as widget replies do. When your workspace uses all its replies, the Playground refuses new questions. It shows this message: "This organization has used all its replies for this billing period. Upgrade the plan to keep answering." Buy a reply pack or upgrade your plan to start again.

Questions that the bot cannot answer are free. An inactive subscription does not block the Playground.

Your workspace can send 30 questions per minute in the Playground. If you go over, you see "Too many test questions in a minute. Wait a moment and try again."
