# Quickstart

> From sign-up to a working widget on your site in five steps.

This page takes you from a new sign-up to a working widget on your site. The five steps match the Getting started checklist on your dashboard Overview.

The first time that you open the dashboard, a short tour shows how to upload documents, test in the Playground and embed the widget. Each person in your workspace sees the tour one time. To close the tour, select **Skip tour**, select **Close** or press Esc. A click outside the tour does not close it. The checklist stays on Overview.

A Member cannot create an API key. On the last step, the tour tells a Member to ask an Admin and links to the install guide.

**1. Create your workspace and pick a plan**

Go to [the dashboard](https://paperlinkai.com/dashboard) and sign up with your work email, Google or Microsoft.

Enter the 6-digit code that Paperlink AI sends to your email. If the email does not arrive, look in your spam or junk folder. You can also wait 30 seconds and select **Resend code**. Then enter your company or team name and select "Create workspace". If you have an invitation or already belong to a workspace, select it to continue.

Select Starter, Growth or Scale, and Monthly or Annual. Then add your card on the Dodo Payments checkout page. The dashboard opens when Dodo Payments confirms your card.

> There is no free plan. You choose a plan and add a card when you create the workspace. First-time customers get a 7-day trial. We charge the card when the trial ends, unless you cancel before then.

> During the trial you get 200 replies and 100 knowledge pages whichever plan you pick, plus the full unanswered report. If you, your workspace or your email address had a subscription before, there is no trial. We then charge the card on the day that you subscribe.

**2. Upload a document**

Open Documents. Select "Upload files", or drag and drop documents onto the page.

PDF, DOCX, XLSX, HTML, CSV, TXT and Markdown, up to 25 MB per file.

If you upload a document with the same name, Paperlink AI saves it as a new version.

**3. Wait for Ready**

Watch the status of the document. It goes from Queued to Reading to Indexing to Ready.

Indexing can take 1 to 3 minutes.

**4. Ask it something in the Playground**

Open Playground and ask a question that your document answers. Citations appear as chips under the answer.

Ask a question that your documents do not answer. The Playground shows the contact fallback that your visitors see.

Open Settings and add a support email so that the fallback has a contact.

**5. Create a key and embed**

Open Settings. Find API keys & embed and select "Create key".

Copy the snippet and paste it before the closing body tag on your site.

In Settings, set Allowed origins to your site.
