Short answer

A website summarizer reads a page and condenses it into a short summary. This one follows the site's robots.txt, extracts the main text, and writes one sentence plus 3 to 10 bullet points using only that text, so it does not add facts or opinions the page does not contain.

How to summarize a web page

  1. Enter the page address: an article, a docs page, a policy or a product page.
  2. Choose the length. Short gives one sentence and 3 to 5 bullet points. Detailed gives one sentence and 6 to 10 bullet points, one or more per section.
  3. Read the summary with the page open. Use it to decide whether the page is worth reading in full, or to brief someone else, then check any number you plan to repeat.

How the summarizer works

First, the page is fetched the way our crawler fetches it: robots.txt is checked, private addresses are refused, and at most 2 MB of HTML is read. The main content (the <main> or <article> element when there is one) is turned into Markdown, which keeps the headings that tell the model where each topic starts.

Then a small AI model writes the summary from the first 16,000 characters of that text. It is told to use only the page text, to add no facts, numbers or opinions, and to say so when the page is mostly navigation. The output is a one-sentence summary followed by bullet points.

What a good summary does

  • Leads with the main point. The first sentence should answer "what is this page for?".
  • Keeps the specifics. Numbers, names, dates and conditions are what make a summary useful, and what a vague summary loses first.
  • Follows the page's structure. One bullet per section makes it easy to jump to the part you need.
  • Adds nothing. A summary that includes the model's own background knowledge is no longer a summary of the page.

Ways to use it

  • Research. Skim a list of articles and read only the ones that matter.
  • Check your own pages. Summarize your pricing or product page. If the summary misses your main point, visitors and AI assistants probably miss it too. Put the key fact in the first paragraph.
  • Meeting prep. Summarize a customer's public docs or help page before a call.
  • Writing descriptions. Use the one-sentence summary as a starting point for a meta description.

Short or detailed?

Choose short when you want to know whether a page is relevant, or when the summary goes into a chat message. Choose detailed for long guides, policies and reports, where each section carries its own rule or number. The detailed version follows the page's sections in order, so you can see what each part covers and open the page at the right place.

If a page has little real content, such as a landing page that is mostly buttons and slogans, the summary says so. That result is useful too: it tells you the page gives readers and AI tools very little to work with.

Limits

  • One page per run. Long pages are read up to 16,000 characters, so the end of a very long page is left out.
  • Text built with JavaScript, pages behind logins and pages blocked by robots.txt cannot be read.
  • The model can misread tables and lists. Treat the summary as a guide to the page, not a quote from it.
  • 5 free AI runs a day, shared by all our AI tools. The page text is sent to our AI model and is not stored.

What this tells you about your own site

AI assistants summarize pages too, when they answer a question with your site as a source. If the summarizer cannot read your page, or its summary misses the point, an assistant may have the same problem. Frequently asked questions

Can it summarize any website?

Any public page whose robots.txt allows our crawler and whose text is in the HTML. Pages behind a login, a paywall or a cookie wall, and pages that build their text with JavaScript, cannot be read.

Is the summary accurate?

The model is told to use only the page text and to add nothing. Summaries still lose detail, and a model can misread a page. Check numbers and claims against the page before you quote them.

How long is the summary?

Short gives one sentence and 3 to 5 bullets. Detailed gives one sentence and 6 to 10 bullets covering each section. Only the first 16,000 characters of a long page are read.

Can I summarize a PDF or a document?

Not here. Convert it to text first with the PDF to Markdown or Word to Markdown tool, then paste the text into the AI answer generator and ask for a summary.

Is the website summarizer free?

Yes. You get 5 free AI runs a day without an account, shared by all our AI tools. The page text is sent to our AI model and is not stored.
